DERBYSHIRE v NOTTINGHAMSHIRE RIDER CUP 2026
WELL!!! What a storming finale to this year’s Rider Cup Tournament!!
As previously reported Derbyshire held a 2 point advantage going into the final day. That meant they needed 5.5 of the available 12 points from the Day 3 singles matches. Nottinghamshire’s task was to get 7 of the 12 to retain the Trophy.
And it started really well for Notts who won 6 of the first 8 matches, meaning they only needed 1 point from the last 4 pairings.
But once again Derbyshire had put strength in their tail and the scores became tied at 17.5 each with just the last match to finish. Notts needed a half to retain, Derbyshire required a win to prevail. It had never been closer, nor indeed could it be, as Derbyshire holed out leaving the Notts player with a relatively short putt to half the hole, half their match and retain the Trophy….
He missed! Much to the anguish of Notts and the delight of Derbyshire!!
Congratulations to both squads on providing such a close fought tournament, great banter, and loads of excitement!!
Year on Year it now reads 8-6 in favour of Notts, but which way will the 15th running of the tournament sway in 2027??!!
