Seniors 'Rider Cup' 2022

The tenth running of the Seniors ‘Rider Cup’ competition was completed today, it is a traditional match between teams of Members representing Derbyshire and Notts and run each year. To make sure a couple of Notts player could avoid their holiday to Madeira the fixture was played a bit earlier in the calendar than normal, how accommodating!!

Day One, on Sept 29th, saw Notts take a small 6.5-5.5 lead after sessions of foursomes and fourballs. Day 2 played on 4th October was a more one sided affair with  Notts winning it 8.5-3.5.

So, heading in to today’s 12 singles games. Notts, Captained by Paul Eveson, held a 15-9 lead, meaning defending champs Derbyshire needed 9 wins to retain the trophy which they had won back in November 2021.

The Notts team were fast out of the blocks and also were strong towards the back of the field eventually wiining 8 out of the 12 games, including 5 of the last 6.

The overall result had never really been in doubt and the the final score was Derbys 13-23 Notts. The largest margin in the history of the competition.

John Clarke the Derbyshire Captain presented Paul with the Trophy after the teams had enjoyed a great two course lunch in the Clubhouse. Thanks go the Steve and Teresa and their team for the food and service.

Congratulations goes to all who organised and participated in the golf, it was a very sociable and friendly  three days played in the right spirit. It was also good to see some old friends returning to the Clubhouse to enjoy the post match celebrations.

Notts now lead the fixture 6-4, so roll on 2023 for the next rematch.
