Pairs Knockout winners

As the golfing season heads towards it close, it’s time to celebrate some of the winners. We hold a number of pairs knockout competitions which run through the summer. They are various formats from a mens pairs, a seniors mens pairs and a mixed pairs too.

They can be great fun to play in and have proved to be a good way to get Members playing with and against players they might not normally meet.

Well done to Chris and Charlie Burnham, father and son, who won the ‘main club’ mens pairs knockout. It is their first win of a Board Competition, well done to Charlie for helping his dad get over the line, with a 1 up victory. Unlucky losers for the second year in a row were Peter Hilton and Mark Toplis.

The Seniors pairs is a random draw for partners, so you don’t know who you will get. Trev Haslam and Phil Smith won the final comfortably by a 5&4 margin over Frank McCabe and Trevor Parrett. Phil, one of our newer members, playing particularly well and utilising his shots at the right time.

The mixed pairs final was a close affair with last year’s runners up Diana Riley and Martin Baraclough winning this time round, 2&1 over 2017 Captains Olivia Dowling and Trevor Parrett.

The long hot summer had made it a fantastic time to play, so Members watch out for the sign up sheets next year and join in if you can. It’s a great way to get into the Golf Club competitions and also test your friendships with your partner!
