130th Anniversary celebrations

On Saturday 20th August the Golf Club celebrated it’s 130th anniversary in style! The afternoon began at 1pm with a shotgun start mixed Texas Scramble, many of the competitors electing to play in Fancy Dress. Everyone taking part had a very enjoyable afternoon and given the events popularity, many said they would like to see this type of event repeated in the future, many of those not wearing fancy dress this time saying that they would do if it was run again.

Although it was a fun event the golf was still keenly contested and the team eventually winning with a nett score of 56.7 were:
– Trev Pearson, Chris Burnham, Charlie Burnham and Alex Watson.
Two teams shared the runners-up spot with a net score of 57.4, those teams were:
– Andy Buckley, Brendon Woodhouse, Mick Cottam and Nigel Cluskey
– Andy Burnham, Graham Lunn, Shaun Patrick and Christian Townsend.

Prizes were also awarded for the best fancy dress outfits, Lisa Hutchins won it for the Ladies with a 1940’s inspired golf attire (the Captain thought she looked a little like Mary Poppins?) and Tim McNeilly as Wonder Woman.

The golf was followed by a social evening at which there was a BBQ and live musical entertainment with Billy Blues. A big thank you to Steve and Teresa Winfield who kindly provided the entertainment and who, as always, worked tirelessly with their staff to ensure a good time was had by all. Thank you.

Jane Strutt had also baked and decorated a cake to celebrate our special anniversary, it looked amazing! Guests were asked to pay a pound to guess the weight of the cake in kilograms and in old money (pounds and ounces). This raised over £50 for the Club the winners were Kathryn Lucas-Yates and the Captain. Thank you Jane, the cake not only looked great, but it tasted fantastic too.

The evening also saw the drawing of the Grand Prize Draw for which over £1,500 worth of tickets had been sold. The winner of the £500 first prize was Stuart Anthony, Stuart Walters winning the £250 second prize and a lady from Mickleover Golf Club (Joyce) taking the £100 third prize.

A big thankyou to all those who supported the event, maybe we should do it all again when we celebrate our 131st Anniversary!
