Ernest Goodwin Trophy and Dinner

A further sign of things returning to ‘normal’, with a social event dinner being held last night at the Golf Club.

Annually at Alfreton Golf Club a competiton is participated in by the current mens Captain, ex Captains, Ex officials, Vice Captain and current Committee Members. It’s called the Ernest Goodwin Trophy.

Due to Covid restrictions, last year’s Trophy was not presented although the competiton, (an 18 hole stableford), was able to take place in August 2020. This year’s competiton again took place in August, but again too early to consider the holding of the awards dinner.

So last night, after a the dinner, attended by many of the competiton participants and past qualified Members; the Captain Billy Morrision presented the Ernest Goodwin Trophy TWICE:
– firstly to Trevor Parrett, the 2020 winner with 41pts.
– then passing it swiftly over to Gordon Swain runner up in 2020 who took the spoils this year with a winning score of 38pts.

Our thanks go to Sharron for her cooking of a great meal and to the two Steves for their service on the night too. Let’s hope we will see more social evenings around the Club as restrictions and confidence continue to lift.

There’s a bonfire night planned for 5th November and we hope also to have the Presentation evening, also in November, for the winners of prizes from the 2020 season too.
