'2019' Rider Cup rerun in 2020

The eighth annual running of the Seniors Rider Cup competition was completed today. Traditionally run in November as a three day end of season event; wet weather at the close of last year meant it was not possible to play at that time.

Rather than see the event be missed for a year, it was decided to attempt to play it as early as possible this year. Due to the course conditions, day 1 was not played as it was ‘carry only’, but the last two days were completed without a hitch on 21st and 23rd January.

After Tuesday’s four ball and foursomes games, the team from Nottinghamshire, captained by Clive Natrass, held a slender 1 point lead over the Derbyshire team to take into today’s 13 singles games.

For some reason; recently the Derbyshire team always seem to play well in the singles and today was no different with them winning 8 of the ties to just manage fall over the line 19.5 to 17.5 winners, enabling Captain Trevor Parrett to take the trophy for Derbyshire for the first time since 2014.

After the matches the teams enjoyed a great two course carvery lunch in the Clubhouse. Thanks go the Steve and Sharron Slater plus their team for the food and service.

Congratulations goes to all who organised and participated in the golf, it was a very sociable and friendly couple of days played in the right spirit.

Let’s hope the weather plays ball in November to enable to 2020 event to run to schedule.
