Stu Walters 2019 fundraising Golf Day

The fundraising has been counted and the time is here for the Club to thank all those who have made the seventh annual Stu Walters golf day another great success.

Held in mid June, the course was packed with over 30 four balls; both Members and their guests, participating in this friendly 4 man stableford competition. The winners were Adrian and Neal Thompson from Shirland along with Neil Stone and Wayne Pynegar, they scored 88 points. It was close though being just one point ahead of Matt Elliss, Chris Bradley and Addy Sollett.

As usual the event was successfully managed by Stu with help from an organising committee who all assisted in many different ways. Sponsors came forward to offer donations for Holes as well as Holes in One prizes and also sponsoring the cost of the band, Vida, which played in the evening. A big thank you goes to them all.

New sponsors this year included Luke Evans Bakery, Owen Taylor Butchers and the Mortgage Zone, so another thanks to them as well as to Hampshire Hill for the shirts donated as part of the prizes to the winners.

During the day the halfway house was expertly and enthusiastically manned by Margaret and Martin McCarthy, so along with the ladies who baked cakes it’s another thank you to all of them. Not forgetting Andy Fenn and the green keepers, the car park attendant, the starters plus our Pro, Nev Hallam all who had early starts……… the list just goes on.

The evening tickets were all sold making the post match celebrations another fantastic night in the Clubhouse, with Donna providing a great buffet to go alongside the live band.

So, to the money raised, it came to over £3,100 with some to be used for furniture refurbishment inside Clubhouse and the rest to be spent on the course, (have you seen the new umbrellas on the patio?) There are also plans to look at installing a fountain into the 4th hole water hazard.

Now, after 7 years of Stu’s focus, this event has topped the £20,000 mark in terms of funds raised, watch out for the repeat in 2020.
